Sofap and the sustainable development goals
By committing to sustainable development, Sofap has chosen to structure its approach by making a positive contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations. In collaboration with its stakeholders, it has implemented various initiatives to integrate the selected SDGs in its strategic action plan.
Sofap is committed to act so as to: ensure access to safe water and sanitation, strengthen access to decent jobs, build sustainable cities and communities, encourage responsible consumption and, finally, create partnerships to achieve the global goals.
Training and empowerment of Sofap’s Team
Between 2021 and 2022, Sofap has almost tripled its training hours, from 793 to 2155 hours. This initiative is a result of our desire to empower our teams, through greater product knowledge.
LEAF Programme
The ‘LEAF’ program aims to promote education and provide financial assistance to employees’ children, who are attending secondary school. In 2023, 8 eligible employees from Sofap benefited from this programme through the refund of school materials and examination fees for their children.
Plant exchange, seed bank and home gardening
Sofap has set up a series of activities to help its employees set up their own vegetable garden and take advantage of the numerous advantages that this offers. A plant exchange event was organised to allow employees to share their own seedlings, seeds and cuttings. This project reinforced sharing and caring between the employees, while raising awareness of the importance of having a vegetable garden at home.
Ecole des peintres
This training programme carried out in 2018 and 2019 aimed to empower 23 unemployed youths identified through their interest in painting, and 11 youths from the youth correctional centre. In addition to their training as professional painters, they were able to learn values such as teamwork, entrepreneurship and work ethics. 73% of the participants found a job related to the sector, and those who are now working in a different field continue to use the skills acquired during the training!
Academy of Design and Innovation
In 2020, Sofap has collaborated with the Academy of Design and Innovation (previously known as the Fashion and Design Institute) by providing the waste related to its activities, for a practical module in waste, having the objective of promoting upcycling. An exhibition open to the public was then organised at the Sofap Eco Hub.
Renewable energy consumption
Solar panels were installed on top of our showroom of Pailles. They are considered as a better alternative to using fossil fuel, which contributes greatly to greenhouse gas emissions. Being a renewable source for electricity production, they demonstrate net long-term environmental and financial benefits. Up till now, this installation has contributed to a reduction of 10 Tonnes of Carbon Dioxide.
Partners for a circular economy
Sofap has partnered with La Déchethèque, the first local online platform to value waste as a resource by facilitating access to it, in order to revalue its waste and encourage the reuse of existing resources.
Freedom Plastic
This educational project designed by Mission Verte seeks to give a second life to single-use plastic, while raising awareness on the principles of the circular economy. Sofap supports this project, which is directly linked to its vision of becoming a Zero Waste company by 2023.
Recycling Sofap paint buckets and jerry cans
To recycle its paint cans and jerry cans, Sofap partners with local recyclers such as Surfrider, Mo Recup and GnG Plastic Ltd, as well as PIM Ltd. By dropping off their used jars at Sofap’s headquarters in Coromandel, customers can participate in this global effort and help the company achieve its Zero Waste vision.

As a manufacturing company, Sofap produces industrial waste. In order to minimise its environmental impact, it has made sustainable development an integral part of its strategy.
In addition to its commitment to produce more responsible products for its customers, Sofap has set itself the goal of improving its production methods, and encourages the recycling of its waste. Its vision is to become a Zero Waste company.
A community-based project
Colour for change,
A story of colour and emotion
Bringing colour to neighbourhoods and connecting communities. This is Sofap’s ambition with the Colour for Change project! Sofap embellished the walls of Cité Mangalkhan in 2017 and Roche Bois in 2018.
Sofap’s ambitious goal with this project is to recreate social ties through creativity, encouraging communities to create a common heritage. Beyond the simple act of repainting walls, colour thus becomes a vector of emotions, sharing and exchange. Picking up a paintbrush symbolises the will to create a better future.
Eco Earth, the Label that preserves the colours of our planet
The biodiversity of our planet is gradually disappearing. And with it, its colours. A balance threatened by human activity that puts our entire survival at risk.To tackle these issues, Sofap, as a responsible corporate citizen, has been committed to sustainable development for several years now, with a Zero Waste target.
In this sense, the Eco Earth label offers a selection of products that meet the requirements of the MS 189 standard – the Mauritian Ecolabel awarded by Mauritius Standards Bureau. This certification guarantees the respect of strict environmental criteria in the production of paints. It indicates that they are made from new generation materials with a lower impact on the environment, and that the production process is more respectful of our ecosystems. Permoglaze Matt Emulsion, Permoglaze Xtreme White and Permoglaze Soft Feel are the first three Sofap products to be marketed under this label.
In choosing an Eco-Label MS 189 product, you are participating in the conservation program of the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (MWF), whose mission is the preservation of endangered endemic species in Mauritius. Our three certified products are associated with endangered species such as the Day Ornate Gecko, the Mauritian Pink Pigeon and the Mauritian Echo Parakeet.

Launched in 2020, the Sofap Eco Hub is an exhibition platform located at the Sofap Inspirations Store in So’Flo, Floréal. There, artisans, entrepreneurs and NGOs involved in sustainable development can exhibit their recycled and/or upcycled products and showcase their know-how, without any charges.
This dedicated space is a further step in Sofap’s goal to become a Zero Waste company. Its aim is to encourage everyone to transform and give a second life to waste – starting with the company’s own waste, such as wooden pallets, cardboard or plastic packaging. The sales stands and workshops are designed to encourage sharing with the general public.
In other words, the Sofap Eco Hub is a friendly exhibition space promoting creativity and commitment to sustainable development!
